Message from the President

Since becoming chairperson of the NZ Chapter I have taken the opportunity to reflect on the progress and achievements of the Chapter over the last few years. Without doubt it is a great success story culminating in winning ‘Best Chapter’ (small-medium category) at the CoreNet Global Annual Awards last year.   We were particularly delighted that Angela Cain, CoreNet CEO from Atlanta USA, came all the way to New Zealand and presented us with our certificate at the CoreNet Global Symposium in June 2012.

However, we cannot become complacent and must continue to invest and develop the Chapter so it becomes the Professional Association of Choice for property people in NZ.

Word-of-mouth promotion is the best way to grow CoreNet as we are keen to be inclusive and welcoming to all the key people in the industry.  You can do your bit too - please invite your industry friends and co-workers along to CoreNet events, forward event invitations to those who you think should be there or email Helen@CoreNetGlobal.org.nz and ask Helen to invite new guests.  CoreNet is a friendly group of like-minded individuals and we are all working together to improve our knowledge and networks.

To become the Professional Association of Choice I believe there are three key areas on which we need to focus :-

  1. The CoreNet brand and identity – what does it mean to be a member of CoreNet? Firstly we belong to the world’s largest association of corporate real estate professionals dedicated to serving and furthering the interests of occupiers and tenants. Simply, without the end-user the market wouldn’t function or exist and we wouldn’t have jobs!  So for me Corenet and its brand needs a louder voice and stronger promotion of the value we bring to business and the property industry.
  2. The value of membership – are we delivering the learning, career development, networking and sense of community that our members need and require? No doubt we need to understand this better but I do believe that at the Global and local level that opportunities and benefits afforded to members are of significant value. The main issue is how we increase the value which will be something that your committee will focus on throughout the year and beyond. As a case in point the newly established Workplace Community within CoreNet has the opportunity of creating a best practice forum for investigating all aspects of workplace.
  3. Chapter Development – any organisation requires critical mass in order to be relevant and have a vibrant and engaged community. CoreNet is no different and building our membership and developing our Chapter in the widest sense is not only necessary for survival but crucial if we are to meet the future demands and expectations of our members. So this will be another key focus of the Committee and this is something I would challenge all our members to give some thought to and would welcome any suggestions that continues to make this such a fantastic Chapter!

And on that note I would love to receive feedback, ideas, ground breaking or any suggestions on any of the above matters or to hear from people who may wish to get more involved in helping run the NZ Chapter.Lastly, and most importantly, thank you to all our Sponsors and Supporters. without your support, our plans could not be realized.

Best Regards,
Bob Bull - NZ Chapter Chair
